Seniors earn comfortable win over Lissummon

After last weeks win over Culloville it was back to league matters for the Dwyers on Saturday and a home tie against a Lissummon side propping up Division III. A slightly altered Keady team produced a strong performance to defeat Lissummon by a score of 1.19 to 0.07 with a wide range of scorers firing for the Dwyers.

A free from Barry Hughes and three quick points from Mark Hughes gave Keady the early advantage before two points from the visitors reduced the deficit. Almost immediately another Mark Hughes point and a fine effort from Chris Courtney reinstated the Dwyer’s four points lead and although Lissummon hit their third point of the first half it mattered little as a well taken goal from the energetic Paul Murray stamped Keady’s authority on the game. An excellent point from Philip Kirk was then followed with Raymy Mullen finishing off a sweeping move but it was Lissummon who notched the final score of the first half to leave the scores at 1.08 to 0.04 at half time and the Dwyer’s looking full value for the lead.

The second half continued at pace as Lissummon wasted no time in firing the first point after half-time but it was Keady who took control of the game therein as points from Barry Toal, senior debutant Conor Hughes and Paul Murray were followed by two scores in quick succession from David O’Hea. Keady’s lead was extended further with a long range effort from Benny Comiskey and a point from the visitors was cancelled out by an angled point from John Corvan. With the game seemingly over as a contest Lissummon hit two scores either side of a Conor Hughes point and Hughes finished the game with a well taken free to give Keady a fifteen point win by a scoreline of 1.19 to 0.07.

Next game: Keady v. St.Pauls, Saturday 19th September.
